Firmware Update
View device information and install firmware updates with transparency log verification.

Current Software Versions
Displays device information in a grid:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| App Version | Helix UI version |
| Image Version | Firmware image version |
| Hardware Model | Device hardware identifier |
| Build Date | Firmware build timestamp |
| Image Hash | SHA256 hash of the firmware |
| Bootloader Version | Bootloader software version |
Integrity Verification
Before applying a firmware update, its hash is checked against a public transparency log to verify authenticity and witness cosignatures.
Verification Server: By default, uses the GQA Transparency production server. When Developer Mode is enabled, a dropdown allows switching between Production and Staging servers.
Update Process
The firmware update follows a multi-step flow:
Step 1: Select Firmware File

- Drag and drop a
.swufirmware file onto the upload zone, or click to browse - The selected filename and size are displayed
- Click Verify & Update to proceed
Step 2: Verification
The browser computes the file hash locally and checks it against the transparency log. During this step you'll see:
- "Computing firmware hash..."
- "Checking transparency log..."
Step 3: Review Verification Result
| Status | Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Fully Witnessed | Green | Verified by independent witnesses — safe to apply |
| Partially Witnessed | Orange | Verified but witness threshold not met |
| Unwitnessed | Red | Found in transparency log but no witness cosignatures |
| Not in Log | Red | Firmware not registered in transparency log — proceed with extreme caution |
| Portal Unreachable | Orange | Could not connect to verification server |
The verification result displays the artifact hash and witness count.
Step 4: Apply Update
The apply button adapts based on verification status:
- Fully witnessed — Green "Apply Update" button
- Partially witnessed — Orange "Apply Update (N Witnesses)" button
- Unwitnessed / Not in log — Red button requiring double confirmation: first click shows "I understand the risk — Apply Update", second click shows "Click again to confirm"
- Portal unreachable — Orange button with double confirmation
Step 5: Installation
- A radial progress indicator shows upload and installation percentage (0–100%)
- Progress is tracked in real-time via server-sent events (SSE)
- Warning: Do not disconnect power during the update
Step 6: Restart
After installation completes, the device restarts automatically. The page polls for reconnection and displays "Device is restarting... Waiting for reconnection."
Step 7: Completion
- Success: Checkmark icon with "Firmware update successful! Device is back online with new firmware." Click Done to finish.
- Failure: Error icon with detailed error message. Click Try Again to restart the process.
Quick Reference
- Download the latest firmware file (
.swu) from the releases page - Drag and drop the file above, or click to browse
- Your browser hashes the file and checks it against the transparency log
- Review the verification result and witness status
- Confirm to apply the update — do not disconnect power
- The device will automatically restart and reconnect
